If you are currently residing offshore and seeking to move to South Australia, the first step is to create an Expression of Interest (EOI) in SkillSelect ensuring you select South Australia as your first preferred State or Territory.
Offshore candidates must have a minimum of three years skilled employment in their nominated or related work. Work experience must be in the past five years and in a role that is deemed full-time defined as 20 hours per week according to Skill Select.
For the 2025-26 GSM program, South Australia will prioritise candidates in the following sectors (in alphabetical order):
- Building and construction
- Defence
- Education
- Engineering
- Health
- Manufacturing.
High-ranking candidates in non-priority sectors may also be considered.
If you have skills and experience in South Australia’s priority sectors, and if your nominated occupation is eligible for subclass 190, you may receive an invitation to apply for state nomination under visa subclass 190. If you have skills and experience in non-priority sectors, or if your nominated occupation is not eligible for subclass 190, you may be invited to apply for state nomination under visa subclass 491.

Offshore candidates in priority construction trades will be assessed by the following factors (in order).
Applicants in the construction trades table, must have a minimum of one year of skilled employment in their nominated or related work. Work experience must be in the past three years and in a role that is deemed full-time defined as 20 hours per week according to Skill Select.
Applicants in the construction trades will be assessed on merit by the following factors:

If you are selected to apply for South Australian nomination, you will have 14 days to submit your application. Your application must demonstrate that you were eligible for the claims entered in your SkillSelect EOI at the time of invitation, so please ensure all the information in your SkillSelect EOI is up to date.
For South Australian state nomination, you must also meet the Department of Home Affairs visa requirements, state-specific occupation requirements and have skills in an occupation that is available on our Skilled Occupation List.
Please note that offshore applicants are not required to lodge a Registration of Interest (ROI) application through the Skilled & Business Migration online portal.
