Additional information for Licensed Trades

Gap training (or Minimum Australian Context Gap training) is provided by registered training organisations (RTO) and must be completed by workers with offshore qualifications in certain trade occupations including electricians, plumbers and gas fitters, before a full licence can be provided. Your Offshore Technical Skills Record (OTSR) gives details of any gaps in technical competencies or knowledge that need to be addressed before working in South Australia.

These requirements are in place to make sure that trade occupations requiring licensing in Australia have essential industry knowledge in areas like codes of practice, and workplace health and safety regulations.

A gap training course requires you to be working in your trade, under supervision, with a provisional license while completing the course. The duration and cost of the course vary with the training provider.
