What is state nomination?

State nomination allows South Australia to support skilled migrants who can help meet the state’s workforce needs.

If you’re applying for a skilled visa, receiving nomination from South Australia can boost your application, by giving you access to more occupations and helping you earn additional points.

Nomination options

There are a range of nomination streams for skilled migrants seeking to live and work in South Australia.Read through each of the streams below to see if you are eligible before applying for state nomination.

The state nomination process

Here are the key stages of the state nomination process that you need to complete before you can apply for your visa with the Department of Home Affairs:

  1. Check your eligibility
Read the important pages on our website (like the Skilled Occupation List, Nomination Options, and Document Checklist) to decide if state nomination is a suitable option for you.
  2. Submit a SkillSelect EOI (and, if you’re onshore, submit a ROI application)
Your EOI is a key component of the whole process, and is needed all the way through to a future visa application. If you’re currently overseas, your EOI is what lets us know you’re interested in South Australian state nomination. If you’re onshore, you’ll also need to submit a Registration of Interest (ROI) application through the Apply Portal with all the required documents.
  3. Wait for a decision to be made
Skilled & Business Migration will review your ROI application (if you’re onshore) or your EOI (if you’re offshore). If you’re invited, you’ll receive an email with instructions on how to submit your state nomination application.
  4. Apply for state nomination
Lodge your application online through the Apply Portal. Make sure you’ve attached all the mandatory documents listed in the Document Checklist to your application before you submit it.
