Getting help with your visa or nomination

Thinking about using a migration agent?

Start here.

You can choose to apply for a visa or state nomination on your own, or you may decide to engage a registered migration agent or legal practitioner.

This is entirely optional. If you do appoint someone to act on your behalf, there are safeguards in place to ensure they meet professional standards.

Who can assist?

All migration agents in Australia must be registered with the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority (OMARA), which is recognised Australia-wide.

To give immigration advice or assistance in Australia, a person must be:

  • A registered migration agent
  • A legal practitioner
  • Or an exempt person (click here to review a definition of an exempt person)

These professionals are authorised to assist with activities including:

  • Preparing and submitting visa applications or documents
  • Giving advice on visa options
  • Representing you in legal reviews or appeals
