Nomination requirements

State nomination from South Australia can strengthen your skilled visa application.

State nomination provides access to a broader list of occupations, regional incentives, and additional points for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491).

To apply for South Australian state nomination, you'll need to meet two sets of criteria:

  • The visa requirements set by the Department of Home Affairs, and
  • The nomination requirements set by the Government of South Australia.

Which visas does South Australia nominate for?

South Australia offers nomination for the following skilled and business visa streams:

  • Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) – See 190 visa SA requirements
  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491)
  • Business Innovation and Investment Program (BIIP) – currently closed to new applications

General requirements for state nomination

To be considered for state nomination in South Australia, you must:

  • Have an occupation listed on South Australia’s Skilled Occupation List
  • Meet either the 190 visa or the 491 visa SA requirements (or other subclass requirements) set by the Department of Home Affairs
  • Satisfy any occupation-specific requirements (such as work experience or English level)
  • Meet any additional state nomination criteria based on your visa stream or applicant type
  • Commit to living and working in South Australia for at least two years after your visa is granted
