Free Employment Services for Newly Arrived Migrants

Specialist Migrant Services celebrates its 15,000th client. Jason, a State Nominated Provisional 489 visa holder, was registered on the 17th December 2015 making him the 15,000 client of SMS.

While state nominated skilled migrants have skills that are in demand, nomination doesn’t guarantee them a job. They must compete for work with other potential employees.

South Australia has a range of services to help migrants find work when they arrive in the state. Specialist Migrants Services (SMS) is part of the Department of State Development, a South Australian state government agency responsible for building a skilled workforce through education and skills initiatives.

While migrants are refining their job seeking strategies in their new home in South Australia, free services offered by (SMS) can help migrants to have their overseas qualifications assessed and support them to find skilled work in South Australia.

The SMS team can also assist skilled migrants with:

  • Job search support to help you find a job.
  • Individual support for those needing more help
  • Employment preparation, including help with resume writing, understanding job advertisements, and job interview techniques.
  • Connecting you to upskilling and retraining opportunities

If migrants have overseas gained qualifications and/or skilled work experience outside of Australia, the free services offered by SMS, can help to have overseas qualifications assessed.

To contact this service call 1800 506 266 or visit the centre at 55 Currie St, Adelaide.
